To Grace – Happy Birthday

I couldn’t write a real birthday poem.

I’ve been a bit lacking in creativity, as of late.

I don’t know why.

I play my guitar and all the chords fall flat.

Words don’t rhyme.

My fingers actually feel sore.

That never happened before.

I wanted to say I love you.

With every bit of vernacular, hidden in my brain

I typed out a squabble

Like chickens scratching in the dirt

I am sure they don’t know what the hell they say

That is my “Happy Birthday… ” to you

The truth of where I’m at

But never would I lack

Never would I stop seeing the beautiful smile

My responsive dorky grin

How my life was empty until

Until….

You entered in and made me

Feel I’ll always be complete

With you in my life

Cause… I really, really like you

And in fact, love you so very, very much

Happy Birthday!

This is my favorite version of this song, thus far

Thank you, Gracie. You always make me smile. Please listen to this song and think of me singing it to you.
